Tulchan extends to just over 15,000 acres and offers prime stalking for two rifles. Tulchan Lodge is very comfortable and accommodates parties of up to 14 guests and includes the services of a very good cook and assistant.

It is situated at the end of a private single track road in a lovely, secluded position. The drawing room features ‘al fresco’ stalking scenes by J.G. Millais. The lodge overlooks a lovely garden and there are spectacular views around the estate, especially from the high ground.

Tulchan holds good numbers of red deer on its ground and cull around 70 stags per year. It can also offer red deer stalking, roe buck stalking in early summer as well as walked-up shooting for grouse, ptarmigan and white hare. From September on, driven partridges are available and from October onwards, driven pheasants as well. Tulchan also welcomes guests for hind stalking from October 21st onwards.

Surrounding area
The local towns of Blairgowrie, Kirriemuir and Braemar all provide excellent local shops and services, while the larger city of Perth is less than an hour away. The surrounding area provides many additional activities including the famous golf courses of St Andrews, Gleneagles, Carnoustie and Rosemount (Blairgowrie), which are all within easy driving distance. Salmon fishing on the River Tay and Dee is also within easy driving distance.

Tulchan Lodge
The main Tulchan Lodge can be taken on a full board basis for a minimum of 6 – 8 guests.

Tulchan Lodge can also be taken on an exclusive basis to include the services of a cook.
Food receipts are then settled directly at the end of the week.

Please contact us for further information.

We say...

Get up on the Tulchan high ground and just take in that view! At over 3,500 ft it doesn’t get much better. Superb stag and hind stalking and walked-up shooting are available. Driven partridge shooting is also available from September. Tulchan Lodge is very comfortable and a cook is included in the rental.

You say...

We had a great family week here in August and managed 2 first grouse and 1 first stag. We had some fabulous days on the hill and were so well looked after in the Lodge. We will be back next year.

Sporting

The Sport

Stalking
Tulchan of Glenisla is a superb sporting estate, extending to around 15,000 acres of spectacular rugged Highland scenery and offers some first class deer stalking for up to two rifles. The estate occupies a marvellous situation at the top of Glenisla and marches with other well known estates including Invercauld to the west and north, and Airlie & Glenisla to the east and south. Tulchan is principally a deer forest with the prime stalking ground known as Caenlochan. For its size, Caenlochan is probably one of the most prolific deer forests in Scotland. Kenneth Whitehead in his Encyclopedia of Deer, lists 13 deer forests in Scotland with a cull over 100 stags. Of these Caenlochan is the smallest in area.

Walked-up grouse
In addition to the stalking, the estate offers walked-up grouse shooting on the lower hills to the south end of the estate together with ptarmigan shooting on the high ground, which rises to around 3500 ft. The views from the high ground are magnificent!

Driven partridge
In 2011 Tulchan Estate introduced red legged partridge which now gives guests the chance to enjoy some driven days from the beginning of September. Bags of 100 – 150 bird days are achieved early on in the season.

Testimonials

We had a fantastic week of sport and relaxation. The lodge was lovely, Heather and Fearne did a wonderful job of looking after us, splendid food, immense flexibility on last minute room changes etc. I have to say however the highlight was the sport - Bill was as described and he could not have been more accommodating or flexible. I had a memorable two hour stalk, including bagging a munroe, sliding down a steep gully, lying in the heather and then getting a right and a left. To top it off a snooze in the sunshine following a flask of whisky while waiting for the Argo. It could not have been better.

I had a great stay at the lodge that proved to be a perfect location to celebrate my 40th with a small group of family and friends. Heather was fantastic and really looked after us during our time there. The meals were always good, and we never went hungry. The birthday meal was especially good. I had the opportunity to get out twice with Bill onto the hill and he was extremely professional and knowledgeable, especially dealing with a novice such as myself. The location was truly magical and on some of the walks I really felt like I had the entire place to myself. The kids loved it there, and we were very lucky as most days it was warm and sunny. But there was plenty for them to do on the odd day when it did rain/snow a little. I would definitely recommend the Lodge to other people wanting to mark a special occasion with an intimate group of friends and would love to return there one day in the summer months to try my hand at stalking the red stags.

I enjoyed every moment of our stay at Tulchan Lodge. From the beautiful river where the kids spent most of their day throwing rocks, to the lovely walks around the house and most of all Heather's cooking. Heather and Fern made our holiday so relaxing. The meals were amazing and Heather was very accommodating to everyone's dietary needs. Fern produced excellent service at dinner time, and she was so polite and courteous. Tulchan Lodge was a wonderful holiday for us to enjoy with our family and friends and we hope to return again one day in the future.

The estate and its Lodge were simply fantastic and everything I had personally hoped for. The Lodge was extremely warm and welcoming in character, and this was only enhanced by Heather, Lilly and Fern. I cannot emphasise highly enough the wonderful job that Heather and her small team did for us. The welcome we received and quality of the fabulous meals they produced made the weekend for us all. As to the Lodge it's self - The reception room was perfect for entertaining my guests and I enjoyed a dram or two after the evening meals whilst sinking into one of the comfy sofa's to relax and unwind in front of the fire. Tulchan's Head Stalker Bill was a wonderful chap who I instantly warmed too. Bill and his team were very professional and I can see he's developing other sporting opportunities such as Partridge on the estate which I'm sure will add some additional sporting opportunities to your clients. The quality and quantity of Red's on Tulchan was staggering and I saw groups of over 200 on Saturday morning... I heard them all night too as the Rut was underway and the Roar of the stags at night carried and was wonderful. I'm pleased to report that one of my party (Angus) managed to shoot a further 4 hinds on Glen Isla I think it was and he thoroughly enjoyed his day on the hill with the Stalking from a neighbouring estate. In summary: I'd like to express my gratitude to George and Jenny for listening to my requirements and finding just the perfect location in Tulchan Estate. The Estate and its staff are a credit to its owners and I am very grateful to have been able to spend my 40th Birthday with some of my closest friends in such a wonderful location. I would have no hesitation in recommending your services or those of the Estate and its staff and hope to return to Tulchan again in the near future. I had a ball.....

We have had a most delightful short break at the Tulchan and much appreciate all your help. Craig and Matt were most welcoming and Matt kindly took us up the hill on Tuesday which allowed us the opportunity to walk for miles in perfect weather on the high tops; very welcome for ageing bones! Debs looked after us very well and made us feel most comfortable. We were particularly touched by Florian's calls and please would you convey our thanks to him for what was a most interesting and indeed nostalgic experience - as to be expected, since my last association almost 60 years ago much had changed, both inside the Lodge and its environs, and all for the better - but the essence of the Tulchan still remains as captivating and delightful as ever. Again, my thanks and sometime well drop into to say hello! With best regards.

Mr Hamish Swan, Kingussie, Scotland
