We had a super time at Traigh last week. What a wonderfully mellow house and such a beautiful spot. We were blessed with fine weather despite a dreadful forecast and enjoyed every day on the beach. Everything was so straightforward and well organised in the house. Sharp knives in the kitchen, plenty of larder/fridge/freezer space for provisions, a super fire in the drawing room for cooler evenings and comfortable beds all contrived to give a most relaxing and enjoyable week.

One of the best things about Traigh is that there is a huge amount to do locally. You will find several brochures for activities in the folder in the kitchen (& please do add to these!), but here are some initial ideas:
– Beach (on doorstep): swimming, snorkling, beach-combing, crab/shell-collecting, picnics – Golf (on doorstep – 50% discount for weekly tickets) – Hill walking (excellent walks in almost all directions!) – Bird & wildlife watching (sea eagles, peregrines, gannets, manx shearwater, otters, pine martens, red deer… ) – Visit Mallaig, a thriving fishing port with ferries to the Skye and other Hebridean Isles – try the local fish n chips! – Kayak hire (in Arisaig) – Boat hire (on Loch Morar) – Fishing on Loch Morar (Season: 15th March to 6th October) – Deer stalking (Lochailort) – Visit fishing port / shopping (Mallaig 10 mins by car)
DAY TRIPS – Boat trip from Arisaig to Inner Hebrides (Eigg / Muck / Rum) – Boat trip to Knoydart peninsular (including the mainland’s remotest pub) – Wildlife spotting – Seafari from Mallaig (humpback/minke whales, basking shark, dolphin, seals etc) – Loch Sheil Cruises (Bird Watching, Wildlife & Historical) – Take the ‘Harry Potter’ steam train to Fort William, crossing the viaduct at Glenfinnan
