Rodel House, one of the islands most historic houses, with its own impressive harbour and walled garden, and views across the sea to the Isle of Skye and beyond, occupies an unrivalled position on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Built in 1781 by Captain Alexander MacLeod of the redoubtable MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan, it is deeply embedded in the life of the island and to this day retains an intrinsic connection to its place it has, in its past, welcomed the late Queen Elizabeth, when The Royal Yacht Britannia anchored off Rodel and she visited the house as part of her Hebrides tour.

After a long and sympathetic restoration, today the house commences a new chapter, welcoming guests to a truly unique and awe inspiring location. Guests can enjoy boat trips from the private harbour to the Sound of Harris, Lewis East Lochs, or the Isles of Shiants and Taransay etc.  Sea-fishing for lobsters, crabs, mackerel, pollack, cod and haddock. Learn about local crafts such as Harris Tweed Weaving, or a tour of the Harris Gin Distillery in Tarbert. Walking, wild swimming, bird watching, and photography opportunities abound…

Rodel House offers accommodation for up to 10 guests (maximum 8 adults and 2 children) and can be fully-catered, or self-catered.

There is an event space in the adjacent sail loft, which can seat up to 50 guests. Perfect for a Ceilidh. Ceilidh is the Gaelic word for gathering, or social visit. Many assume it is a traditional dance party, however it can also involve storytelling and singing. A memorable evening could include an accordion player, Scottish dancers or a storyteller, to immerse yourself in this beautiful, gentle culture.

Minimum 3 night rental.

Rodel is a 1.5hrs drive from Stornoway.
There are regular flights from Stornoway to Edinburgh/Glasgow.

We say...

A visit to the Outer Hebrides with its beautiful white sandy beaches, and crystal clear sea, should be on everyone’s bucket list. Rodel is the perfect location to soak in the peace and serenity and enjoy the very best of island hospitality.
