Orton Estate is located on the eastern side of Scotland, midway between Inverness and Aberdeen. Ten miles from the sea, it is situated in idyllic rural surroundings beside the River Spey, one of Scotland’s most famous salmon fishing rivers.

The Estate has 6 rods over 2 beats: Fishing is for Salmon, Grilse, Sea Trout and Brown Trout on both banks on one of two Beats on the Upper Orton Water, River Spey.

Beats are alternated at 1300 hours each day for a party of up to three rods with the services of one ghillie to look after the guests on each Beat including use of the hut and the boats on that Beat.

Fishermen will be accommodated in one of the estate properties, dependent upon the size of your party / how many rods your party books. Property details will be supplied at the time of booking. The Estate has 5 Country Lodges. The largest, Garbity Farmhouse, can sleep up to 14 guests, while the remainder sleep between 10 and 13 persons.

Each property was once a farm house, or other farm building, which have all been converted and made comfortable. They are well equipped for modern living. Properties are serviced daily by their housekeeping team which gives your holiday the exclusive personal touch along with privacy that you won’t find in any hotel.

Example images of the properties are highlighted in our web page on Orton Estate.

All of the houses are spread across the estate, whilst remaining within easy reach of the river Spey, guests will always enjoy a sense of seclusion and privacy.

Orton Estate is close to several of Scotland’s famous golf courses on which we can usually arrange for our guests to play while staying with us, from booking tee times to organising transport.

The seaside is within easy reach of the Grampian mountains as well as the beautiful unspoilt countryside between them.

Apart from exploring the hills and mountains by car or on foot, nearby places of interest include some of Scotland’s famous castles and some of its best known malt whisky distilleries.

Catering
You can also make use of full board or part board catering services, both of which operate from July through September. Or if you prefer, you can be self catering.

Catch
The 5 and 10 year averages for Sept are 68 and 67 respectively.

A little History
On Christmas Day 1157, King Malcolm IV granted the lands of Innes and Nether Urquhart to Berowald the Fleming. Berowald’s descendants became the clan Innes and owned Orton from that day until William Duff, later first Earl of Fife, bought the estate. Orton Estate has remained in his family ever since. Orton is not a town, or even a village, but a community which includes Orton Estate.
