Morsgail is a mixed sporting estate of some 14,000 acres set in a remarkable wilderness.

Morsgail Lodge overlooks Morsgail Loch and is within easy walking distance from the Upper and Lower River. The estate offers both river and loch fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout, with two boats on Morsgail Loch and access to Loch Langavat. Red deer stalking for one rifle is available, as well as walked-up grouse shooting over the estate pointers. Snipe and woodcock can also be shot in season.

There are two gamekeepers on hand to look after all sporting and non-sporting guests whilst at Morsgail.

Morsgail Lodge offers comfortable accommodation for up to 10 guests and is let on a self-catered basis with all bedrooms ensuite. The dining room and sitting room enjoy fantastic views over the loch. Sea fishing trips can be arranged, as well as visits to the remote islands, beaches and coastline.

Self-catering rental:
The majority of visitors to Morsgail Estate come on a self-catered basis and the island has an abundance of delicious local produce for you to try. You’ll find plenty of space in the lodge’s fridge and freezer and a well-equipped kitchen with dual fuel cooker (double oven and grill, and six rings). While the nearest supermarket is in the island’s capital, Stornoway, there is a community shop 10 minutes’ drive away for basic supplies. Uig Sands Restaurant is similarly not far, offering meals made with fresh, local produce and with an emphasis on local seafood.

Catering options:
If you’re self-catering and would like a night off cooking, the estate can provide delicious freshly cooked meals to be stocked in your fridge that you can simply reheat, all prepared by Amhuinnsuidhe Castle’s chef, by prior arrangement.
We can organise your own private in-house chef during your stay and many of the meals can be created from what you’ve shot or caught yourselves, offering the true field-to-fork experience. Please enquire when booking for further details.

Dogs are welcome on the estate, but not in the house. Kennels are provided nearby.

We say...

Morsgail, situated on the beautiful west coast of the Isle of Lewis, is the perfect place to get away from it all. This wonderful mixed sporting estate offers salmon and sea trout fishing, walked-up grouse, stalking and rough shooting.

You say...

Extraordinary wilderness, good weather and too much to do. We saw eagles with almost monotonous regularity and our party shot, stalked, fished, picnicked and collected the juiciest mussels we’ve ever eaten.

Sporting

Stalker/ghillie
There are two gamekeepers on hand to look after all sporting and non-sporting guests whilst at Morsgail.

Fishing

Morsgail offers salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing on both river and loch. The fishing is principally on the Morsgail Loch and the upper and lower rivers, which are easily accessible by foot from the lodge – making it easy to go out for a cast before breakfast or after supper. There are two boats with outboards on the loch.

Exciting and secluded salmon and sea trout fishing with a breathtaking backdrop of mountains.

There can also be exciting fishing in the Loch Ken Resort estuary, particularly in late June and early July. There is a further boat on Loch Langavat and a boat for brown trout only on Loch Coirigerod. These latter three areas can only be accessed on foot and involve a three to four mile walk.

Guests are required to bring their own fishing equipment.

Shooting

Testimonials

Dear George I wish to thank you for our holiday at Morsgail as it has been a great success. I think you did a great job at advising this estate for our party. Meterologic conditions were not ideal for salmon nor for deer but Malcom compensated a lot with alternative activities to entertain the kids. All the children loved it and are obviously hooked onto sports now on. That was the initial target and the result is well accomplished. Looking forward for more of Scotland in the future. Please convey my regards to the owner and thank him for sharing his passion for this lovely estate with us.

Edmond
