House of Glennie is located on the banks of the River Deveron, one of Scotland’s premier salmon rivers.  The Glennie beat is one of the best beats on the Deveron.  The house has a mile of double bank fishing and this picturesque beat is located at the bottom of the garden.  It is a two rod beat with 10 named pools and around 60 salmon are caught each year. There is a lovely fishing hut overlooking the river for guests to use.

Glennie is unique in offering fishing within a short walk of the house, ensuring ease of access and the flexibility to return to the house for breaks in the day. Lunch can be taken in the charming fishing hut or in the main house.

It is 50 minutes from Aberdeen and is perfectly positioned in a secluded location on the banks of the River Deveron. The interiors are traditional, spacious and comfortable and Glennie has the relaxed feel of a family home. Glennie is the perfect destination for families of all ages and house parties who want a traditional Scottish holiday.

There are many activities to enjoy in the surrounding countryside – head north to enjoy the pretty Scottish fishing villages and beaches, or west for Speyside. Fine castles, houses & gardens, whisky distilleries and golf courses are dotted throughout the area.

Whatever your preferred activity, Glennie is well located and a pleasure to return to at the end of a full day.

You say...

‘ It was a joy staying in the House of Glennie last week – a glorious place, lovely surroundings and a beautiful stretch of river….The peace and quiet, with no responsibilities, was a longed for treat. The little touches were so appreciated : fresh flowers around the house and in the bedrooms; the freshly laid fires and ready wood for us each evening, so welcome after long days either on the river or anyway in the fresh air. Thank you so much for letting us share your beautiful home for a week, with your lovely pictures, interesting books and family photographs. A memorable week indeed. ‘ Prue Keigwin, North Yorkshire

Activities

There are many activities to enjoy in the surrounding countryside – head north to enjoy the pretty Scottish fishing villages and beaches, or west for Speyside. Fine castles, houses & gardens, whisky distilleries and golf courses are dotted throughout the area.

Salmon fishing – Richard the Ghillie can give expert lessons.
Golf – there are lots of courses nearby and we are 35 miles from the Trump course.
Whisky distillery tours – there are many around, my favourite is Strathisla, which is a c.20 min drive away.
Medieval port – Portsoy, which has a pub and outside tables, plus a very good ice cream shop nearby. 20 min drive from Glennie.  Ice cream shop – Portsoy. https://portsoyicecream.co.uk/

Beach – Sandend. Broad open beach, with good sand dunes for a picnic at the far end from the car park, plus private beaches in the sand dunes / cliffs.

Sandend and Portsoy are closeby, so you can do lunch in the dunes at Sandend and then ice creams on the way home in Portsoy!

BBQ – in the garage; you can get ready burn coal packs from Tesco in Huntly.
Supermarket – I usually go to Tesco in Huntly; think there is an Aldi too. 20 mins away.
Lobster / fishmongers at Turiff.
Pub – The best in the area is Craigellachie Hotel, which is owned by Piers Adam, of Boujis fame about 20 mins away. https://craigellachiehotel.co.uk/
Traditional Scottish Castle – a favourite is Fyvie House; extremely fine castle owned by the National Trust and former home of the Forbes Leith family – outstanding contents. 20 mins away.

Our week at Glennie was just as we were hoping – a true 'home from home' that is cosy, comfortable and relaxing, yet able to sleep a large number of people. The convenience of a fine stretch of salmon fishing running through the garden is hard to beat and the myriad of local castles, beaches, hills, towns and distilleries offer plenty of distractions.
