Activities

There are many places of interest to visit – west to Pitlochry or south to Blairgowrie and Perth. We are also well situated for walkers, golfers, cyclists and bird watchers. Fishing is available on the estate and there are numerous golf courses nearby. Gleneagles is just over one hours drive and Pitlochry is just 20 minutes away. Glenshee Ski Centre is easily accessible while other attractions include Balmoral, Glamis and Blair Castles.

Sporting

The estate offers wonderful walking in breathtaking scenery. Glenfernate’s “low” ground consists of rough permanent pasture, rising to heather moorland drained by the Fernate burn, a tributary of Scotland’s largest river, the Tay.

Herds of wild deer are common, together with grouse, ptarmigan and other game on the estate.

Guests can enjoy brown trout fishing on the private loch, which has the benefit of its own fishing hut and rowing boat – a perfect place for picnics together with some good fishing.

Stalking is occasionally available in September/October for 1/2 rifles.

Walked-up grouse shooting is also available on this lovely Perthshire estate.

Testimonials

I wanted to write to you and let you know that we greatly enjoyed our stay last week at Glenfernate. The lodge has a wonderful homely and welcoming feel (quite unlike many lodges I have stayed in!) and was extremely well equipped and comfortable. Even the weather cooperated for some competitive tennis and croquet. Margaret was absolutely wonderful and could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Likewise we had her daughter Jackie to cook for the week and the supplies of excellent food were endless. Davie did a great job on the hill as did another Davie on Thursday who I gather came over from Glenshee. Finally I would like also to say how professional and helpful George Goldsmith and his team in Edinburgh have been. They could not have been easier or more pleasant to deal with.

We had a great time, and loved staying at Glenfernate. It is in a lovely part of the highlands and everyday we did something different. They kids loved everything from croquet to stalking and fishing, to swimming in the river. Margaret and Jacqui looked after us very well, and David was a superb stalker, and was great at looking after the kids.

The week was great as always. I stalked on Fealar and one day on Glenfernate with "little" Davey who was great. Mark Wood at Fealar was also brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him (and the ponies, one of which - Angus - head butted the Ghillie into the stream!). Margaret at Glenfernate was her usual fun self as was her daughter, Jackie, who cooked for us and her daughter, Alison. Though I would give Margaret more praise for the fact that she does everything she can to make the stay comfortable and warm as possible. It's rather like staying with family (but nicer!). Likewise Jackie - just great cooking and great to be with. But what was really good was wifi which meant we could work far more easily and that led to a lot less stress and more relaxation. We'll definitely be back if allowed!

We had another brilliant week at Glenfernate. Margaret the housekeeper and Jackie the cook (Margaret's daughter) were both jolly and efficient throughout the week and made our stay a pleasure. Gordon (head stalker) and his team were first class again. I need to talk to you about our plans for a week next year.
