Eilean Shona House is situated on a small privately owned island set at the entrance to Loch Moidart in Argyll. Measuring some 2 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, this beautiful island is just a short boat ride from the mainland. Eilean Shona is located almost exactly mid distance between the Isles of Mull and Skye and captures the beauty and charm of the West Coast of Scotland.
Eilean Shona’s highest point is 860 feet above sea level from where there are spectacular and far-reaching views to the islands of the Hebrides in the west and towards Ben Nevis in the east. One of the island’s most striking features is perhaps its 300 acres of mixed and varied woodlands which include an important pinetum with many rare and magnificent trees some of which were brought back to Eilean Shona over 100 years ago from distant parts of the world.
Eilean Shona House is a country house of great character and has been upgraded to provide comfortable family accommodation for a party of up to 20 guests. The principal reception rooms and bedrooms have a south easterly aspect and so take full advantage of the fine views. Both the drawing room and dining room have open fires.
Eilean Shona lends itself to an extensive variety of activities including billiards, archery, swimming, fishing, canoeing, rowing, sailing and boating.
Eilean Shona has a small pioneer which holds 4 people with a small 4hp engine for guests to use, as well as kayaks and paddle boards available.
This island’s secluded paths through the woodland and over the open hills provide an opportunity for some energetic hill walking, while at the south west corner of the island there is a beautiful white sandy beach, which becomes fully exposed at low tide and where it is often warm enough to swim in the summer.
Eilean Shona is also the ideal location for indulging in more gentle pastimes such as painting, photography, reading and writing.
It is the perfect retreat for those seeking peace and tranquillity and who simply wish to relax in comfortable surroundings away from the pressures of everyday life.
Ideal location for a family holiday.
Eilean Shona House enjoys a sensational position on its privately owned island – Eilean Shona. Situated on the west coast of Scotland, it offers a complete escape. Sea fishing, remote picnic spots and beaches to discover for a real west coast experience.
We adored Eilean Shona. It is a truly magical and remote place, we really felt like we were on adventure going there. It all harked back to my husbands childhood, playing on boats and crabbing. We went prepared for every eventuality and had a great time. Kate and Paul looked after us really well and were very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. I am sure we would love to go again.Mrs McIntyre, Ayrshire

We all had the most wonderful time on Eilean Shona - thank you. We didn't want to leave. Kate and Paul are extraordinary and, in particular, went out of their way to make things easier/more comfortable for me. So, thank you, thank you - for letting me know about the house via your brochure (please keep me on your mailing list), and for organising everything for us. With thanks again, Mrs J. Hill

It was a very special long weekend and the perfect setting. The weather was unbelievable and the views are breathtaking. The staff there are very easy to get on with and the food was great.

We had a wonderful week on Eilean Shona, thank you. The house was lovely - huge, warm, very comfortable, masses of bathrooms and hot water, a fire laid for us every day. It was great to stay in a house which had books, CDs, wellies, waterproofs, games, boats, kayaks, life-jackets, fishing lines - a hugely generous quantity of equipment left for our use which made it feel like a home rather than a holiday rental. We didn't need to bring nearly as much stuff as we did bring. We swam off the pier every morning, kayaked to both beaches, picnicked, wrote limericks, barbecued, explored the islands, walked to the top, over the hill and nearly all the way round. We feel utterly rejuvenated!
