Eilean Shona House is situated on a small privately owned island set at the entrance to Loch Moidart in Argyll. Measuring some 2 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, this beautiful island is just a short boat ride from the mainland. Eilean Shona is located almost exactly mid distance between the Isles of Mull and Skye and captures the beauty and charm of the West Coast of Scotland.
Eilean Shona’s highest point is 860 feet above sea level from where there are spectacular and far-reaching views to the islands of the Hebrides in the west and towards Ben Nevis in the east. One of the island’s most striking features is perhaps its 300 acres of mixed and varied woodlands which include an important pinetum with many rare and magnificent trees some of which were brought back to Eilean Shona over 100 years ago from distant parts of the world.
The house sleeps up to 16 and comes with an excellent chef and an island host to guide you during your stay. Food, wine and whisky are an important part of the Eilean Shona experience and they pride themselves in the exceptional cooks they have on hand. The House Manager is there to discuss your preferences so each meal from breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner are memorable. The iconic dining room was painted by the Glaswegian artist Fred Pollock. The table comfortably sits up to 20 people but it can also have a leaf or two removed for smaller parties.
Eilean Shona lends itself to an extensive variety of activities including billiards, archery, swimming, fishing, canoeing, rowing, sailing and boating. Eilean Shona has kayaks, a Canadian Canoe and paddle boards available for guests to use. An ideal location for indulging in more gentle pastimes such as painting, photography, reading and writing.
This island’s secluded paths through the woodland and over the open hills provide an opportunity for some energetic hill walking, while at the south west corner of the island there is a beautiful white sandy beach, which becomes fully exposed at low tide and where it is often warm enough to swim in the summer. It is the perfect retreat for those seeking peace and tranquillity and who simply wish to relax in comfortable surroundings away from the pressures of everyday life.
Rental of Eilean Shona includes island transfers to and from the mainland, morning housekeeping service, resident chef specialising in local, seasonal produce (breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner included as well as soft drinks beer and house wine), as well as use of the island kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
