Situated between Inverness and Nairn, Dalcross Castle provides guests with superb modernised and comfortable accommodation.  The owners have retained the character and charm of this wonderful 17th Century Castle which stands amidst beautiful secluded landscaped gardens.

Dalcross Castle is a classic Scottish tower house complete with a beamed Great Hall and large fireplace, a stone spiral main staircase, a secret staircase, turret rooms, shot holes and arrow slits and leaded windows in the Sitting Room. Guests have the use of the beautifully landscaped gardens.

Brief History
Built by Simon, first Lord Lovat, in 1620 and held by the Lovat Frasers until 1703 Dalcross Castle then became the home of the Mackintosh Clan. In 1746 Dalcross was the rallying point for Cumberland’s troops who quelled the Jacobite uprising at the Battle of Culloden. The Laird’s wife raised her own troops in support of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

The present owner has brought accommodation standards into the 21st century whilst retaining the essence of the castle. Fine fabrics, subtle lighting and decoration have been carefully selected to enhance the castle’s character. Log fires crackle in the reception rooms and bedrooms have the benefit of gas fires and en-suite bathrooms. Excellent central heating and first quality appliances ensure that guests enjoy the historic atmosphere in the greatest of modern comfort.

The castle sleeps twelve guests in five large double bedrooms and one twin room.

Two further castle bedrooms are available if required (one superking and one zip and link (twin or superking) – both en suite bath and shower) by separate arrangement at an additional charge per room per night.

Housekeeping

2 hours housekeeping each day of the common living areas only are included in the rental.

Activities

Lots to do in the local area including fishing on the River Findhorn, shooting, stalking, hiking, dolphin watching, etc

Dalcross Castle has 850 acres of grounds to explore.

There are sandy beaches at Nairn and Findhorn Bay.

There are several golf courses to choose from, including Nairn Golf Course (past host of the Ryder Cup), is a 20 minute drive away as is Inverness Golf Club. The Royal Dornoch Golf Course is a picturesque drive north of just over an hour.

Culloden Battlefield is 2 miles from the Castle.

Easy day trips to Loch Ness, Brodie Castle, Cawdor Castle and Dunrobin Castle.

Plenty of local whisky distilleries.

Inverness, 20 mins, has an excellent range of shops and restaurants, cinemas, a theatre and aquadome. There is a large  retail centre with cinema, superstore, chemist and huge bookstore on the way to Inverness.
