Chesthill House, on the South Chesthill Estate, is set in a beautiful location facing towards the well known waterfall and Roman Bridge situated in Glen Lyon, the longest glen in Scotland and reputedly the most beautiful.

This charming sporting lodge has recently been upgraded and offers large comfortable rooms with open fires and a relaxed feel and offers very comfortable accommodation for up to 15 guests.

The gardens are ideal for children to play, and indeed adults too.  Above the garage there is a Games Room which contains a small sized billiard table, darts, table tennis and a piano. There are four bikes available for guests use. Take a cycle up to the top of the glen to the coffee shop and treat yourself to a hot chocolate!

Bring your binoculars and enjoy some amazing wildlife in their natural setting – Red deer, Ptarmigan, Black Cock, Grouse, Golden Eagles, Buzzard, Ospreys, Golden Plover, Snipe and Otters. The grounds around the house are home to a large population of red squirrels.

The closest towns are Aberfeldy and Killin. Golf courses are in abundance at Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Pitlochry, Strathtay and Killin. Glenlyon is a splendid area for sightseeing and exploring and is easily accessible being only 85 miles from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Advertised rates include sport, with the exception of Hind Stalking.

2024 weekly rates range from £4,500-£7,750 excluding sport, and prices including sport range from £4,500-£14,867 per week on a self-catered basis.

Daily Housekeeping included each morning, Monday to Friday, 1.5 hours each day.

Garden Cottage
Additional accommodation is available in Garden Cottage (sleeps 4).

There may be the opportunity to take salmon fishing when Chesthill House isn’t let (or is let without fishing).

We say...

Chesthill house is a traditional Scottish sporting lodge located in one of Perthshire’s quietest and most beautiful glens. The property enjoys wonderful views of the Perthshire countryside and offers very comfortable accommodation ideal for family holidays or a sporting week.

You say...

We again had a fantastic time in Glen Lyon. A group of mixed ages and mixed sporting ability, but a wonderful time had by one and all. With regards to the lodge, there is no question the improvements are for the better, while the old arrangements certainly had their own charm the updated bathrooms are of course an improvement. All the guests commented on how comfortable they were and how sympathetically everything had been done. Our cook who knows the lodge and he certainly approves of everything that has been done downstairs, both in terms of the kitchen and his accommodation. With regard to the sport, the day on the hill was particularly enjoyed by guns, beaters and dogs alike. While I know Hamish was a little disappointed by the bag, this was more a reflection of the calibre of a pretty inexperienced team of guns rather than a lack of grouse. We also had a wonderful day up at the brown trout loch with a number of the younger members of the party getting involved in the sport, although only one fish was actually landed before swimming seemed to dominate proceedings! We were rewarded with a c. 17.5 lbs salmon which surprised as much as it delighted. It was in fact especially notable as breaking the fisherman’s size record of 32 years which had been set with the first fish he ever caught! My thanks for your help in ensuring that everything went so well.

FISHING:
Chesthill enjoys over 4½ miles of single and double bank fishing and 32 pools on the River Lyon which is 30 miles long and flows from Loch Lyon down through one of the loveliest glens in Scotland. The fishing which goes with the Lodge is for 2 to 3 rods on 4 beats.

The catch has varied from 107 in 2012 (record year) to 9 in 2020 (virtually unfished due to Covid) with the average between 35 and 75 in normal years. The catch is well spread over the spring, summer, and autumn, from March through to October, with salmon caught weighing up to mid 20 lbs.

Beats 1 and 2
Chesthill Fishings (2-3 rods each). This includes Beats 1 and 2, pools 1 – 12. South Chesthill Estate owns single bank fishing for these pools operates a double bank approach for half the pools on any particular day.
From 2017 Chesthill will operate on a “red disk, white disk” bank sharing arrangement with North Chesthill Estate and on any particular day you will have double bank access to six of the pools, Beat 1, and on the next day, the other half, Beat 2.

Beat 3
Beat 3 is Culdramore (2 rods), pools 13 – 23. This beat operates in the same way as Beats 1 and 2, shared with Glen Lyon Estate.

Beat 4
Beat 4 is Inverinain (3 rods, single bank). This beat didn’t previously come with Chesthill House, but because of the change above, we have decided to include this for you, for free. It includes good pools in low water (Valley, Still Water) and one of our most productive pools in medium/high water, Boulder (our second top pool in 2016).

There is also some good trout fishing on the river, and on Loch Creag a Mhadaidh.

The estate have recently added a new fishing hut on the loch.

STALKING:
Stalking is available both on South Chesthill and neighbouring estates.
The Forest comprises 6,500 acres and provides some wonderful stalking. Approximately 50 stags and 80 – 100 hinds are culled each year.
The ground on the Estate rises to over 3,000ft. above sea level and is steep in places. The house is at 600 ft, 4×4’s can be provided for hill parties.

GROUSE SHOOTING:
There is a modest stock of grouse on the hill for walking up in August and additional walked up grouse can be organised if required.
