Candacraig

Candacraig sits amidst the beautiful Cairngorms National Park and a wonderful setting for entertaining large family groups and special events.

The house has a rich and vibrant history of Scottish clans. Built in the 17th century, this exclusive venue was enlarged in 1836 in the renowned Scottish Baronial style. The Lairdship of Candacraig and surrounds was officially bestowed upon the Anderson family in the year 1620, and the history of the estate was entwined with the family through ten generations to follow. In 1866, ownership of Candacraig was passed to Andrew Wallace, whose own descendants were to maintain stewardship through to 1980.

Much like its distinctive architecture, Candacraig was to develop and deepen throughout the following years. Gordon and Anita Roddick, founders of the globally renowned Bodyshop chain, purchased the estate in 1980, and embarked on a comprehensive programme of improvement. They later sold the rejuvenated Candacraig to comedic icon Sir Billy Connolly and wife Pamela in 1998. In the years that followed Candacraig was to be a hotbed of Hollywood celebrity guests and media attention.

In May 2014 the current owners opened its doors to visitors from around the world, offering an exclusive opportunity to experience the Scottish Highlands whilst enjoying a private retreat with bespoke/exclusive experiences.

This beautiful Baronial country house is available for luxury, exclusive-use, rentals throughout the year and offers wonderful Scottish hospitality. Their resident House Manager will be on hand to assist throughout your stay along with a full housekeeping and catering staff. A butler service is also available.

Guests will enjoy the Dining Room, beautiful 17th Century Drawing Room, Games Room and fabulous Whisky Library.

Candacraig has eighteen-acres of private woodland and manicured lawns to explore including a glorious Victorian walled garden, private lochan fed by the celebrated River Don, and even a woodland bonfire area for special moments by the crackle of the warming fire. There is also an outdoor table tennis table, croquet lawn and a children’s activity area.

Candacraig offers a unique private chef and full staff to present the finest cuisine, sourced from the freshest local ingredients from across Scotland.  Scotland is famous for the fine quality of its produce, from its world-renowned ocean bounty to its rich and tender Highland game.
