The picturesque village of Kippen is within walking distance. The perfect retreat for a family holiday or reunion, or a corporate retreat and, for golfers, Gleneagles is only a 30 minute drive.
Broich house’s striking exterior is complemented with an extremely comfortable and stylish interior, a spectacular mix of traditional and contemporary, and light filled spacious rooms. With 7 individually designed en-suite bedrooms for up to 14 guests, Broich House offers privacy and luxury in equal measures. The house and its beautiful gardens serve as a heavenly escape from everyday life as an enjoyable and tranquil retreat for all ages.
Guests staying at the house are provided with a range of indoor and outdoor activities.
The four acres of magnificent gardens are a joy to behold. Multiple pathways framed by majestic and rare trees provide shelter to the plant collections of Sir Peter Hutchison, a well-respected plant collector and great grandfather to the current owner Sir James Hutchison who has inherited his passion for gardening. In May and early June, the Glen at Broich blossoms with rhododendrons and other shrubs collected by Sir Peter on his hair-raising and dangerous trips to the Himalayas. These woodland paths lead to the haven of Broich’s spectacular enclosed Victorian Walled Garden. Its yew hedges, herbaceous borders and water features form a magnificent space.
Sir James Hutchison, the third baronet of Rossie, is the current owner of Broich House and it has been occupied by his family for over 100 years. Sir James’ maternal great-grandfather, Archibald Colville, ran David Colville & Sons, the largest steel works in Scotland. His wife Jean was said to be the first person to host “Cocktail Parties” in Scotland and during the 1920’s Fortnum & Mason were commissioned to entertain the guests in style. The Fortnum & Mason carriage would be sent on the overnight train from London to Scotland. On its arrival at Stirling Station the horse drawn carriage would be dispatched to Broich House for the evening’s glamorous entertainment.
The Victorian Walled Garden is a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic or a barbecue with outdoor dining for 14 guests and soft seating covered by an oak gazebo, alongside a hot tub, outdoor shower, and kitchen. A fabulous spot for a game of croquet!
For a more relaxed stay, guests can put their feet up by the log fire in the cosy library surrounded by leather-bound books and stocked with board games. Those looking for some friendly competition can take themselves to the games room to play table tennis or enjoy a game of darts.
The Orangery, which seats 14, is a beautiful spot to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or a summer supper.
After working up an appetite exploring what the house and gardens have to offer, guests can feast around the large Victorian dining room table which comfortably seats 14 people in an atmosphere of bygone splendour.
