Borthwick Castle is described as ‘the finest keep in Scotland’ and on occasion played host to Mary, Queen of Scots. She once famously leapt from a window in the castle, disguised as a pageboy, to flee an army of pursuers!

It has been lovingly refurbished, retaining its medieval grandeur and atmosphere, but with the modern comforts of a sumptuous home from home.
Within the castle there are ten uniquely designed bedchambers with lavish bathrooms, plus the newly refurbished Gatehouse sleeping 2 guests and Crookston Cottage which can sleep a further 4 guests, bringing the total capacity to 26 guests.
Guests can enjoy exclusive use of the Castle and its grounds for special gatherings, luxurious family celebrations, holidays, weddings, and corporate events.
There is an excellent chef at Borthwick. Breakfast each morning is included, and catering is tailored to suit your requirements. The chef would discuss options with you ahead of arrival.
Borthwick is just 30 minutes from both Edinburgh city centre and Edinburgh Airport.
Accommodation
Exclusive hire includes three magnificent public rooms: The Garrison, The State Room and The Great Hall which can be used for ceremonies, receptions, dining, dancing and activities.
For events, the maximum number of guests in the public rooms is 70.
The Castle has 10 elegant bed chambers sleeping up to 20 guests and, next to the castle, Crookston Cottage which can sleep a further 4 guests and the newly refurbished Gatehouse can sleep 2 guests.
A turndown service, housekeeping, unlimited soft drink mini bar in all bedrooms, tea selection and freshly brewed coffee are also included for guests staying the night at the castle. In the morning, you will be treated to a delicious cooked to order full Scottish breakfast. A team of staff are on site 24 hours a day.

Many of the world’s most famous Golf Courses are within easy reach of the Castle, offering you the opportunity tee off at some of the world’s most famous courses including St Andrews, Muirfield, Gleneagles, Archerfield, Gullane, and Troon.

Visit Rosslyn Chapel is one of Scotland’s most remarkable buildings and it is still used today as a place of worship.
Nearby Crichton Castle passed into the hands of the Earls of Bothwell in 1484.
