Auchterarder House is a wonderful example of an original Arts & Crafts property, perfect for a special weekend celebration with family, a corporate retreat, or for golfers wanting to base themselves amidst the best golf courses in Scotland.

Set amidst 20 acres of beautiful mature gardens, with views towards the Cairngorm and Grampian mountains, the house has been renovated to provide guests with modern-day creature comforts, whilst retaining its unique character, including parquet floors and original hand-crafted wooden panelling.

Just a stone’s throw from Auchterarder, the property offers golf enthusiasts the opportunity to play some of the best golf courses in the world including the famous Gleneagles Hotel and Country Club, the only European Golf Resort to have hosted both the Ryder and Solheim Cup. Ideally placed to play other major Scottish Championship Courses such as Muirfield, Carnoustie, Troon, Castle Stuart and The Old Course at St Andrews.

Built in 1887 by James Reid, the Glasgow locomotive builder, as a weekend and summer home for his family it has since seen school girls evacuated from cities during the Second World War, and past US Presidents and World Leaders, including Ronald Reagan, stay when it was, for a short while, a small boutique hotel. If only walls could talk!

Guests have the full use of the indoor cinema, gym and sauna as well as a wonderfully appointed dining room, drawing room, reception hall and library. There is also a stunning Victorian Orangery perfect for summer drinks receptions overlooking the beautiful gardens and private lochan stocked with trout for guests to fish, complete with rowing boat!

Within an hour of Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports, and a short commute to the historic cities of Perth and Stirling, Auchterarder House is an experience not to be missed.  A true country house where guests can enjoy a “dram” beside a roaring fire, sample the best locally sourced ingredients by their in-house chefs, and enjoy the views of both the Grampian Mountains and the Cairngorms.

The house has 10 well appointed en-suite bedrooms, providing accommodation for up to 20 guests in supreme comfort.
One of the bedrooms is located on the ground floor and has en-suite disabled facilities for guests with mobility issues.

Edinburgh, Glasgow and St Andrews are all around an hour’s drive from Auchterarder House and you can be in the Highlands within a couple of hours….

Hiking & Hill Walking

There are a wide variety of local walks, in all directions, catering for all abilities. Perthshire has some great Munros for beginners; Schiehallion, Ben Chonzie and Ben Vorlich.

Golf

There are around 40 golf courses in Perthshire itself, including Gleneagles, located just 5 min from Auchterarder. Ideally placed to play other major Scottish Championship Courses such as Muirfield, Carnoustie, Troon, Castle Stuart and The Old Course at St Andrews.

Sightseeing

There are many wonderful historic sites not far from Auchterarder including Scone Palace, the crowning place of Scottish Kings, and Glamis Castle, childhood home to the beloved Queen Mother.

Fifteen hundred years ago the site on which Scone Palace sits was the capital of the Pictish kingdom, 42 kings of Scotland have been crowned here, including Robert the Bruce in 1306. Scone can be enjoyed from April to October.

Glamis Castle, childhood home of the late Queen Mother and the setting for Macbeth. With fairy-tale turrets and long sweeping driveway, it has the reputation as ‘Scotland’s most haunted’ Castle. Visitors enjoy touring its 100 rooms and glorious gardens from Mid-March to October.

Stirling Castle is well worth a visit, one of Scotland’s grandest castles with its impressive architecture and imposing position.

Blair Castle; ancestral home of the Atholl family for over seven centuries, can be visited from April to the end of October.

St Andrews; not just great for golfers, there are beautiful beaches, historic buildings and a plethora of eateries to chose from.

East Neuk; a picturesque fishing village which is only an hours drive from Auchterarder.

You can enjoy a trip to the magnificent gardens at House of Pitmuies near Forfar or take in the beautiful Cowden Japanese Garden near Dollar.

Take a trip up Royal Deeside to Ballater and Crathie Kirk. Braemar is home to the famous Fife Arms.

Combine a trip to Pitlochry with a visit to The House of Bruar, known as ‘Harrods of the North’.

Whisky

Whisky lovers can enjoy a visit to the many distilleries not too far from Auchterarder.  We have the local Tullibardine Distillery just 10 minutes drive away; Edradour, Scotland’s smallest distillery and Glenturret in Crieff (oldest working distillery in the country) which also hosts the fabulous Lalique Restaurant with their Michelin star team.

Local Activities 

The Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar includes 12 species of deer and animals which are long lost from the Scottish countryside, including Wolves, Lynx and Scottish Wildcat plus our European Brown Bear.

Go-Karting and Supercar Driving thrill at Knockhill.

Crieff Hydro Hotel offers many activities including alpaca trekking, Treetop Adventure and axe throwing plus much more.

The River Tay flows through the stunning Perthshire countryside, offering a variety of rapids, it is a popular destination for white water rafting. Splash White Water Rafting offer a variety of activities to choose from such as white-water rafting, canyoning, river duckies, kayaking, gorge walking and stand-up paddle boarding.
