Fishing
The quality of the sea trout and salmon fishing at Amhuinnsuidhe is unsurpassed. There are six separate fresh water loch and river systems of which Loch Voshimid is the most famous and all in remote and beautiful surroundings. If you are lucky you will see golden eagles.
The majority of the fishing is done ‘Hebridean style’ from a boat, except when the rivers are in spate. There are six resident ghillies or stalkers to look after guests and their company and knowledge are a major factor in the enjoyment of the day. Fishing is by fly only and ‘dapping’, given the right water conditions, can be most effective.
The big sea trout start to run in June, with the salmon a week or two later. Weights are comparable with those found in similar waters in Scotland and Ireland, while the numbers are generally higher. The sea trout average one to eight pounds, with salmon averaging five to eight pounds although, increasingly, salmon of up to fifteen pounds are being caught.
The heaviest recorded salmon taken from Amhuinnsuidhe Loch is 18.75lbs and the heaviest sea trout 11lbs.
Weather and availability of staff permitting, excellent sea fishing is also available to those staying at the Castle. A launch is available for this purpose as well as sea trips and visits to nearby islands and beaches.
Guests are required to bring their own fishing equipment.
Stalking
Red Deer stalking is available in September and October. Amhuinnsuidhe can normally accommodate two rifles going to the hill at any one time.
The remoteness and grandeur of the North Harris Deer Forest provides some of the finest red deer stalking in Scotland. While average deer weights and head sizes are lower and smaller than those found on the mainland, the sheer variety and challenge of the sport is not to exceeded anywhere.
The scenery is spectacular in the extreme, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and interspersed by deep glens, craggy summits, steep braes, hanging corries and numerous hill lochs and burns, all of which combine to provide ideal country in which to stalk.
Shooting
Walked-up grouse and rough shooting for snipe and woodcock can be arranged. For the more adventurous, we can offer guests an exciting shooting package with a ghillie, staying out in one of the estate bothy’s.
Bring your dog and shoot over wild, remote and beautiful terrain for snipe and woodcock.
Come and enjoy this wonderful part of the world!
