Alladale Wilderness Reserve is a 23,000-acre gem in the Scottish Highlands, about 1.5 hours north of Inverness. The reserve is famous for its owner’s dream of ‘rewilding’: restoring this beautiful part of Scotland back to its original state, with lush forest and original highland plant and animal species, such as the Scottish pine, red squirrel and Scottish wild cat.
Alladale is a nature lover’s dream. The rugged terrain, dramatic glens, colourful hills, glistening rivers and herds of majestic red deer will take your breath away.
The luxury Alladale lodge, built in 1877, is a site to behold. It sits proudly on a hill, overlooking some of Scotland’s last ancient Caledonian Scots pine forest. This beautiful Victorian manor, refurbished by Laura Ashley, is comfortable and spacious, sleeping up to 14 guests in 7 rooms. Its traditional design includes original fireplaces and tall sash windows, which makes it feel like a true Scottish home away from home. The property boasts a set of lovely extras, such as an in-house sauna, gym and snooker room.
Additional accommodation is available at modern cottages Eagles Crag (sleeps 8) and Ghillie’s Rest (sleeps 4). These beautifully presented properties are situated in Glen Alladale and come with fantastic views.
Onsite activities include wildlife watching, world class brown trout fishing, guided hikes, 4×4 tours, pigeon clay shooting, foraging, mountain biking, wild swimming, massage & beauty treatments and whisky tastings.
Minimum stay is 3 nights. 2025 Rate is from £10,000, for 3 nights, based on 6 guests. Supplementary charge for additional guests.
Rental includes:

Accommodation
Well behaved dogs are allowed in the accommodation by prior arrangement, but are not to be left unattended.
Alladale Lodge
The Alladale Lodge was built in 1877 and has been refurbished by Laura Ashley. It stands on an elevated plateau surrounded by native woods with spectacular views over some of Scotland’s most northerly ancient Caledonian Scots pine forest.
The lodge offers 7 en-suite bedrooms, a large drawing room and dining room, satellite TV room with DVD/VCR player, full size snooker room, table tennis table, gym, sauna, board room complete with home cinema and wireless broadband throughout the lodge. There are a good selection of board games, books and dvds for guests to enjoy.
Bedroom Configuration
All bedrooms, with the exception of Pine, are ‘zip and link’: they can be turned into a double room or twin room. All rooms have a television and a hairdryer.
Alder is a medium sized room, with a king size bed or 2 singles. The en-suite bathroom has a bath and a hand-held shower unit at one end of bath. Views are over the back courtyard.
Aspen is a medium sized room with a king size bed that can be turned into 2 single beds and an extra sofa bed. The en-suite bathroom has a shower over the bath. Views are to front of Lodge over the grounds and surrounding mountains.
Birch is a medium sized bedroom with a king size bed which can be twinned if necessary. The en-suite bathroom has a shower cubicle. Views are to front of Lodge over the grounds and surrounding mountains.
Holly is a modest size room with a king size bed that can be turned into a twin if necessary. It has an en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle and views over the back courtyard.
Pine is the smallest room and the only bedroom situated on the ground floor (away from the hustle and bustle of the communal areas), with a view of the driveway and greenery to the side of the Lodge. It has a small double bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle. Pine is suitable for an elderly or less abled guest.
Rowan is a large room with a king size bed which can be twinned if necessary. The large en-suite bathroom has a separate bath and shower and two hand basins. The room also has a separate sitting room with large sofa bed which could be used for a child. Private dining can be set up in the room upon request. Views are to front of Lodge over the grounds and surrounding mountains.
Willow is a large bedroom with a king size bed, that can be turned into 2 single beds if necessary. It has an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath. Private dining can be set up in the room upon request. Views are to front of Lodge over the grounds and surrounding mountains.
Cottages Ghillie’s Rest & Eagle’s Crag
Alladale Wilderness Reserve also offers two luxury cottages with a cosy, modern feel: the combination of wood, exposed brick and tartan patterns makes you want to hide away here forever. Both cottages are built to a very high standard in a Scottish-Scandinavian style and offer all modern amenities you need for a very comfortable stay, including underfloor heating and (modest) Wi-Fi. Ghillie’s Rest sleeps a maximum of 4 in 2 bedrooms; Eagle’s Crag a maximum of 8 in 3 bedrooms.

With 23,000 acres of rough beauty, Alladale Wilderness Reserve offers plenty of opportunity to embark on outdoor activities including:
- world class wild brown trout fishing in 10 hill lochs from April to September.
- Fishing is done from the banks and is catch and release. Trout rods are available and can be hired by the day if required.
